" We are giving humanity its first view of a black hole - a one way door out of our universe "
 - Sheperd Doeleman (Lead Observer, Haystack Observatory, Massachusetts Institute of Technology)

On 10th April, 2019 scientists released the first ever captured image of a super-massive Black Hole . The first image of a black hole was named 'Powehi' , a Hawaiian phrase that refers to an "embellished dark source of unending creation".

The Black Hole was located at the center of M87 galaxy , in Virgo galaxy cluster :

Distance : 55 million light years ( 1 Light Year = 9.5 trillion Km)

Mass: 6.5 Billion times that of Sun ( Mass of Sun = 1.989 x 10 ^ 30 Kg )

The first image of this super-massive black hole was captured by Event Horizon Telescope, a project that connected eight different telescopes worldwide. Powehi and its shadow, which are located in the center of M87, a galaxy in space. The project gathered 5,000 trillion bytes of data in two weeks, which was then processed through supercomputers for scientists.

Although, the first image released of Black Hole was of just 183.4 Mb (0.18 Gb)
But the data collected by Event Horizon Telescope was 5 Petabytes to create that 183.4 Mb image.

1 Petabyte = 10,00,000 Gb
5 Petabyte = 50,00,000 Gb
